Brazilian economic activity increased by 0.8% in September compared to August, according to data from the BC Economic Activity Index (IBC-Br) released today (14) by the Central Bank. The IBC-Br is considered a preview of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The result came after the increase in August. From July to August, the IBC-Br showed growth of 0.2% in the Brazilian economy. The data is seasonally adjusted, that is, variations that occur at certain times of the year are removed.
IBC-Br data also shows that, compared to the same month last year, the index increased by 5.1% in September.
Also according to the BC, Brazil’s economic activity increased by 1.1% in the period between July and September this year. In comparison with the same quarter in 2023, the increase recorded was 4.7%.
In the last 12 months, the index showed an increase of 3%. For the year, the index has already accumulated an increase of 3.3%.
The IBC-Br is seen as a preview of the Gross Domestic Product, which is officially calculated by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The index tracks economic activity month by month and anticipates possible inflationary pressures.
On December 3rd, IBGE will release GDP figures for the third quarter. In the second quarter, between April and June, the Brazilian economy expanded 1.4% compared to the first quarter of this year.
