Economist Rolando Gordón: ‘We still have activities in the country that cannot be reactivated, such as tourism’

Gordon hopes that construction will continue to strengthen, because it generates great employment production just like the manufacturing industry, which is growing, but at fewer steps.

Economist Rolando Gordón analyzed this Tuesday the economic reactivation of the country and job expectations, indicating that it is most likely that by the middle of this year we will reach the economic levels of 2019, before the pandemic caused by Covid-19.

He pointed out that we still have activities in the country that cannot be fully reactivated, especially international tourism.

He considered that the problem is that what is slower is the production of employment, which is lagging behind because many companies that are being reactivated are not large generators of jobs, especially in the service sector.

Gordon hopes that construction will continue to strengthen, because it generates great employment production just like the manufacturing industry, which is growing, but at fewer steps.

“Another problem that we are facing is inflation. For the month of February it was at 2.7 and if the crisis in Ukraine continues we are going to rise to higher levels of inflation due to problems with food, oil and fertilizers,” said the economist.
