After the departure of Ricardo Bonilla from the Ministry of Finance, President Gustavo Petro announced the appointment of Diego Guevara as the new head of this portfolio. The head of state confirmed Bonilla’s successor in the middle of a speech at an event in Uruguay.

The new head of the Minhacienda has a doctorate in Economics, a master’s degree in Economic Sciences and an engineer from the National University of Colombia.
As part of your work experience, He has stood out as an associate professor and researcher in different higher education institutions. This list includes his ‘alma mater’, the School for Development Foundation, the University of La Sabana and the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.
Guevara has also served as a consultant to the French Agency for Development on macroeconomics and climate change issues. He has also been a visiting professor at the Viadrina University in Frankfurt (Germany).

According to President Petro, the official “know the entire process that we have been fighting so that we are not drowned by the capital funds of the internal or external public debt.” This considering his current work as Deputy Minister of Finance.
The president also highlighted that Guevara is aware of the Government’s struggle to confront high interest rates and to reduce the deficit inherited by the previous administration.
