Economic keys that will mark the week in America

The publication of the latest inflation data in the United States, Brazil, and Argentina, as well as the monetary policy meetings held by the central banks of the United States, Colombia, and Mexico, focus this week’s news interest on the American continent.

These are the economic keys that will mark the week in America:

MONDAY 12

The VII edition of the Energy Week begins in Panama, in which innovation in the energy sector and sustainable energy development, among other issues, will be discussed.

Mexico publishes the industrial production corresponding to the month of October, after recording year-on-year growth of 3.9% in September.

TUESDAY 13

The United States publishes the inflation rate for November, an indicator that in October stood at 7.7% after falling five tenths.

Meanwhile, the US Federal Reserve begins a two-day meeting to analyze the impact of the tightening of its monetary policy and, predictably, decide on a new interest rate hike.

In Brazil, the Central Bank publishes the minutes of the last meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee in which it agreed to maintain the reference interest rate at 13.75%.

Canning House, the most important forum dedicated to Latin America in the United Kingdom, presents in London its annual perspective report on the region (LatAm Outlook) for 2023.

THURSDAY 15

The Bank of Mexico holds its monthly monetary policy meeting, after in November it decided to raise its interest rates by three-quarters of a point, up to 10%.

The institution also publishes the December survey of private sector specialists with the latest forecasts for inflation and growth of the gross domestic product (GDP) for 2022.

The National Institute of Statistics presents information on the tourism gross domestic product (GDP) of Mexico.

The National Supply Company (Conab) discloses its fourth and final projection for the Brazilian coffee harvest in 2022.

The Brazilian Central Bank publishes its Quarterly Inflation Report with new projections on the price index and the country’s economic growth.

The Argentine statistics institute releases the figures for the gross domestic product for the third quarter of the year, after registering a growth of 1% between April and June, the fourth consecutive quarterly rise, although with a slowing trend.

Argentina disseminates the consumer price index for last November, after having registered a year-on-year rise of 88% in October, five percentage points above the variation of September and on track to accumulate inflation of 100% per year.

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) of Peru releases the report on national production for October 2022.

Meeting of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB) to discuss the monetary policy of the euro area.

FRIDAY 16

Brazil holds its first auction for the exploitation of oil fields under the “permanent offer” regime.

Last meeting of the year of the Board of Directors of the Bank of the Republic of Colombia to review interest rates, currently at 11%.

The Bank of Mexico presents the “Report on regional economies, July-September 2022”, with information on the evolution of the economy by sector.
