The Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, Pável Isa Contreras, reaffirmed today that the anti-inflationary policies and the fiscal effort applied by the current administration of the Government to contain the effects of the inflation present favorable results in the Dominican economy.
The economist Isa Contreras explained that the inflation in the last three months it is close to half of what it was in the first months of the year, thanks to the actions carried out by increasing and targeting fuel and food subsidies.
“The result has been that the inflation it would close this year at a level of eight percent, lower than the year 2021; but, at the same time, if we did not have anti-inflationary policies, the inflation would rise, which indicates a positive result in the actions carried out by the government”, projects the minister.
He highlighted the effectiveness of the anti-inflationary policy that mitigates price increases caused by the international context.
The economist and researcher, when interviewed by the media, during his participation in the Regional Conference on Corporate Sustainability, expressed that clearly the global context is complicated. However, economic growth in the country has been generating more jobs and more income for the population.
He pointed out that part of the economic growth is absorbed by the inflation as a result of the increase in fuel and food prices at the international level.
He stated that stronger results are expected for the last few months to improve the well-being of the population. “We will continue to see a greater reduction in poverty and a greater increase in the level of employment,” she said.
