Economic activity in August increased by 0.2%, compared to July, according to data from the Central Bank Economic Activity Index (IBC-Br) released this Monday (14) by the Central Bank. The IBC-Br is considered a indicator of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP, sum of goods and services produced in the country).
Between June and July, the economy fell 0.4%, according to IBC-Br.
Still according to the BC, in comparison with August 2023, the data shows that the IBC-Br grew 3%. In the last 12 months, the index showed an increase of 2.5%. In the year, the index accumulates an increase of 2.9%.
In the quarter ended in August, the IBC-Br registered an increase of 1.5% compared to the previous quarter. Compared to the same quarter last year, there was growth of 4%.
The IBC-Br is seen as a preview of the GDP, officially calculated by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The index tracks economic activity month by month and anticipates possible inflationary pressures.
