Economic activity grows 0.8% in December

The data was slightly lower than the central forecast of a 1% increase reported by the Timely Indicator of Economic Activity.

By component and with data adjusted for seasonality, the monthly variation in December 2021 was as follows: secondary activities increased 1.2%, tertiary activities increased 0.7% and primary activities decreased 1.1%.

Along with this information, the figures of the preliminary estimate of GDP for the last quarter of 2021 were revised, which suggested that the economy had had a slight contraction at the end of the year.

According to Grupo Financiero Monex, with the best performance recorded for December, the variation is calculated at a quarterly increase of 0.02% against a preliminary 0.08% decrease and an annual increase of 1.10% against the previous 0.95%. After the publication of the data, the Mexican peso has remained stable around 20.43 per dollar.

It should be remembered that according to Timely Indicator of Economic Activity (IOAE), it is estimated that the Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE) of January 2022 has a decrease of 0.15% at the monthly rate.
