Economic activity grows 0.69% in November, says Central Bank

The Economic Activity Index (IBC-Br) increased by 0.69% in November 2021, compared to October, a percentage that has already been seasonally adjusted to compensate for any differences between periods, such as the greater number of holidays or weekends.Economic activity grows 0.69% in November, says Central Bank

The data, a kind of preview of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the sum of all goods and services produced in the country. was released today (17), in Brasília, by the Central Bank. Despite the increase, the quarter still has a negative number (-0.79%), due to a previous sequence of declines, according to the figures presented by the monetary authority.

In comparison with November 2020, when the effects of the pandemic were more pronounced, the indicator is up 0.43%; and in the year (January to November 2021) the observed variation, without seasonal adjustment, was 4.59%. In the 12-month period, November has a high of 4.30%.

Selic and exchange

The IBC-Br incorporates information on the level of activity of the three sectors of the economy: industry, commerce and services and agriculture, in addition to the volume of taxes. The index is a way of evaluating the evolution of Brazilian economic activity and helps the Central Bank to make decisions about the basic interest rate, the Selic, currently set at 9.25% per year.

The market forecast for the basic interest rate, the Selic, at the end of 2022, is 11.75% per year, according to a bulletin released by the Central Bank at the beginning of the month.
