Economic activity grew 5.8% in January, according to Dane

Economic activity in the country began the year with more modest growth than the figures reported month by month last year. The Monitoring Indicator to the
Economics (ISE)
which measures the Dane, registered an annual growth of 5.85%when comparing the data with January 2021.

For the month of January 2023, the ISE in its series adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects showed an inter-monthly growth of 2.57%compared to the month of December 2022

The Dane reported that the primary activitiesin which are the agriculture and the exploitation of mines and quarriesshowed slight growth in the first month of 2023, with a 0.56% growth compared to the same month of 2022. Regarding the monthly figure, these two branches of activity showed a joint increase of 1.18% compared to December 2022.

For the month of January 2023, the index of secondary activities (manufacturing and construction) presented a growth of 2.68% in its original series, and regarding the monthly data, the performance was 2.15%.

Finally, the group of tertiary activitiesthe one that has a greater weight in the economy and includes the activities of services such as commerce, transportation, information and communications, entertainment, among others, mshowed a growth of 7.46% in the first month of the year. The monthly figure for these activities presented an expansion of 1.31% in relation to December.
