Do you know why dead fish were found on the shores of a lagoon in Santa Fe?
Recently, thousands of fish appeared dead on the shore of Laguna del Plata in the town of Vera y Pintado200 kilometers from the city of Santa Fe. This lagoon has a great variety of fish species, since there is
Commercial fishing prohibited.
Unfortunately, the decrease in the level of oxygen in the water due to the high temperatures and the lack of precipitation caused the death of thousands of specimens that were found scattered over 20 km.
As reported, The mortality of fish has been happening for three years now due to droughts. And they explain that the normal level of the lagoon is around 1 meter and a half, however, at the time of the appearance of the fish, it was close to 40
inches deep.
This is because the necessary rainfall is not occurring. In fact, the last time it rained around 100 millimeters was in July 2022. In other words, it hasn’t rained abundantly for 6 months.
As if this were not enough, a specialist warned that this tragedy could intensify if the shore is not cleaned on time, since the decomposition of the fish would contaminate the lagoon.
Let us remember that behind the droughts and high temperatures is deforestation. Let us defend our forests and our wetlands to prevent the irreparable degradation of our ecosystems.
