Ebrard urges businessmen to "speed up" to public consultations for the review of the T-MEC

The Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, urged the business sector to “speed up” in public consultations that define the document for the beginning of the review of the Trade agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC) at the end of next November, said the president of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers (Concamin), Alejandro Malagón.

After a private meeting between the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) and the head of Economy, the leader of the country’s industrialists reaffirmed that the business sector will be the “technical arm” of the consultations and will be provided with information to try to reach negotiations without tariffs.

“We talked about the consultations, consultations that have been starting since October 1st, started by Canada, the United States and us. The idea is that there are 90 days to have the document. In the case of Mexico, the Secretary (of Economy) Marcelo (Ebrard) wants to speed it up more and for this document to be finished by the end of November at the latest,” commented Malagón.

Within the framework of Industrialists’ Day organized by the ComcaminJudith Garza Rangel, coordinator of Cuarto de Junto (technical accompaniment of the private sector in the T-MEC negotiations), said that she will change the name of the Cuarto de Junto group, but they will continue to provide accompaniment to the private sector with the federal government.

“The Secretary (of Economy) has commented that we have already had more than 40 meetings, we have accompanied…beyond the review process, it is a continuous process, in which we have provided a lot of information, all of which has already been done throughout this year, thanks to a structure that already exists (of the Cuarto de Junto) and that is maintained,” explained the also president of Foreign Trade of Concamin.

In this regard, the president of Concamin pointed out that the Private Initiative “we are helping to participate in this document (for the beginning of the review of the T-MEC), which will let us see a ceiling and a floor, to know what position we are in and from there start the review strategy. And there we will participate, because we become the technical arm.”

Faced with a changing environment, Judith Garza mentioned that “they are not things that we have been able to control. So, I think that right now we have to see how the following months come, right? There is the whole issue of consultations, both Mexico, United States and Canada. I understand that by December there should be a report, with the results of these consultations and I believe that depending on that, strategies will be defined to start 2026.”
