THE Brazilian Communication Company (EBC) released this Thursday (10) the public call notices for the composition of members of the Social Participation, Diversity and Inclusion Committee (CPADI); and the company’s Editorial and Programming Committee (COMEP). Together with the Ombudsman’s Office and the Special Advisory, the two forums make up the National System of Social Participation in Public Communication (SINPAS).

For the president of EBC, Jean Lima, this is a fundamental step towards consolidating a public communication model truly centered on society. “There is no public communication without social participation. It is this appreciation of diversity that ensures that communication is plural, democratic and, above all, representative”, he stated.
CPADI’s functions include monitoring the programming guidelines broadcast by public communication stations operated by EBC with regard to social participation, social, cultural, regional and ethnic diversity. The focus is also on the plurality of ideas in approaching the facts, from the perspective of observing the principles of promoting national culture, plurality of content sources, stimulating regional production and independent production, in addition to its educational, artistic, cultural, scientific, informative and promoting citizenship.

COMEP aims to promote the participation of civil society in monitoring the application of the principles of the public broadcasting system, observing the plurality of Brazilian society, as per Decree No. 12,005, of April 23, 2024.
The Selection Process for the formation of COMEP aims to select 10 full representatives and 10 substitutes from the following segments: public radio and television broadcasters; higher education courses in Social Communication, independent audiovisual sector; legislative communication vehicles; cultural community; scientific and technological community; entities defending the rights of children and adolescents; civil society entity defending the right to communication; and higher education courses.
Members will be chosen from triple lists, composed of people, preferably, of different genders, races and regions of the country, nominated by organizations, broadcasters and/or entities representing segments of civil society. The term of office will be two years, counting from the date of inauguration, with reappointment being prohibited.
In addition to the ten members, there will also be a representative of EBC employees, with their respective alternate, who will be chosen from a triple list formed by the direct vote of their peers, in an election organized by EBC in conjunction with trade unions. that represent them.
In turn, the selection process of this notice aims to select 16 main representatives, with their respective alternates. Eleven representatives of general civil society organizations will be considered for the composition of this Committee, one of which must be a representative of union entities for broadcasters or journalists. At least five representatives of general civil society organizations must be nominated by entities or organizations with direct and proven performance in the field of public communication.
Five representatives from public broadcasters that are part of the National Public Communication Network (RNCP) will also be part of the CPADI, one from each geographic macro-region. The 11 members selected for COMEP will also make up CPADI.
Half of the CPADI members and their respective alternates (8 full members/ 8 alternates) will have a mandate of three years and the other half (8 full members/ 8 alternates) will have a two-year term, counting from the date of inauguration, with reappointment being prohibited. .
