Journalist Iara Balduino, from TV Brasil, received an honorable mention in the 67th edition of the ARI/Banrisul Award, promoted by the Riograndense Press Association in partnership with the State Bank of Rio Grande do Sul. The ARI/Banrisul Award values journalistic excellence and merit, highlighting productions that contribute to the strengthening of professional and academic journalism. The awards ceremony took place this Friday (12).
The recognition was granted by the report The marks of racism at schoolproduced for the program Reporting Paths. The work highlights how racism manifests itself in the school environment and shows that half of Brazilian schools still do not comply with the legislation that makes the teaching of Afro-Brazilian history and culture mandatory.
The edition also presents reports from teachers who suffered discrimination during their school lives, showing how these episodes leave deep marks on students, in addition to providing analyzes from experts and educators on the importance of confronting racism to guarantee democratic education and combat historical inequalities.
“I was happy for the recognition, especially in a program with such an important theme as anti-racist education. It is also an incentive for us to continue and provide quality public communication at EBC”, said Iara.
EBC’s Director of Journalism, Cidinha Matos, celebrated the achievement. “In 2025, we will receive many important awards, and this is another one! Iara’s reporting deals with an essential topic for society. Being recognized on this topic reinforces the relevance of EBC’s journalism”, he stated.
