Easter tourism affected by protests

The multiple protests unleashed in various parts of the country this week, added to the curfew imposed by the Government on Tuesday, directly affected the tourist demand forecast for Easter.

Ricardo Acosta, president of the Peruvian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (Apavit) points out that losses of S/ 1,000 million per day were recorded throughout the country. In addition, that around “6,000 tourists nationwide had to stay locked up in their hotels, which caused them to lose their contracted tours and their paid lunches” due to the events that happened.

Along these lines, a climate of uncertainty and instability has been generated due to the political and social situation in the country, which has led to the cancellation of a significant number of tourist reservations for Holy Week.

“50% of reservations for Easter have been canceled due to the political situation because it is no longer known if they are going to close any roads, the situation is very unstable and people are afraid to leave Lima and not be able to return,” adds Acosta. .
