The strong earthquake that shook several states in Mexico the day before has left two dead, a dozen injured and more than 200 homes affected, said Tuesday morning the national coordinator of Civil protection, Laura Velazquez.
Several areas of the country, including the capital, were hit by a magnitude 7.6 tremor, according to data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
A man and a woman died after a roof and a wall fell on them, respectively, in the state of Colima, one of the two most affected along with Michoacán.
During the morning conference this Tuesday, the federal official mentioned that since the earthquake was registered, 692 aftershocks have been recordedthe most intense of them reported at 3:22 in the morning with a magnitude of 5.8 degrees although it did not detail major damage.
He said that more than 3,600 elements of the Army, Navy and National Guard were deployed who activated their plans to help the population.
The earthquake of this September 19, 2022, impacted some 48 million Mexicans in various locations in the country. The event of magnitude 7.7 on the Richter scale had its epicenter south of Coalcomán, Michoacán.
The telluric movement was felt in at least 12 entities in the country: Aguascalientes, Mexico City, Colima, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacán, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí and Veracruz.
