Cervical or cervical cancer is caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which also causes other types of cancer.
In Paraguay, the vaccine that prevents this disease is available, it is included in the regular vaccination schedule.
The HPV vaccine is safe, reliable, and effective; It is aimed at girls from 9 to 14 years of age. Two doses of the vaccine are enough to confer protection against this cancer. The doses are applied in the vaccination clinics of the Ministry of Public Health.
It is important to be aware of the early detection of cervical cancer. This cancer is one of the few that, detected in time through PAP, can be cured. This study is capable of revealing a precursor lesion of cervical cancer.
The PAP is performed free of charge in the Public Health services and, by Law 3,803/09, women have two days off to perform the PAP and mammography.
What must be taken into account to perform the PAP:
– Not be menstruating.
– Do not douche from the day before the PAP test.
– Avoid having sexual intercourse one day before the study.
– Suspend intravaginal medications (ovules and others) one week before the exam.
– If transvaginal ultrasound was performed, wait two days to do the PAP.
– If you underwent a gynecological-obstetric intervention or had a delivery, wait three months for the study.
