Each hemodialysis patient costs CSS 30 thousand dollars a year

Alexander Pineda said that for more than seven years they have requested tenders for hemodialysis but no government was interested in holding the tender. He pointed out that this should be based on the needs of the patient.

Pineda said that a patient on hemodialysis costs the Social Security Fund $30,000 a year; peritoneal dialysis costs $20,000 and transplant patients cost $10,000. Ideally, all patients receive their transplants.

He stressed that this is an issue that should be resolved by the Social Security Fund, not by patient associations, and explained that what the leader Alonso Rodríguez said about the lack of transparency in the transplant system is not true.
