The value of retail sales (retail) of electronic commerce in Mexico during 2021 was 401,300 million pesos, with which the digital channel represents 11.3% of total retail sales, according to the Online Sales Study 2022 of the Mexican Association of Online Sales (AMVO).
The electronic commerce slowed down its growth in 2021 compared to 2020, when internet sales reached a value of 316,000 million pesos, a growth of 81% compared to 2019.
Despite this slowdown, Mexico ranks first among the countries where e-commerce grew the most, along with India, Brazil, Russia, Argentina and France, and above the global average growthwhich was 16.3 percent.
Mexico is still far from countries like China, England, South Korea and Denmark, where electronic commerce represents between 20 and 43% of total retail trade. With 11.3%, Mexico compares with countries like Spain, France, Germany and Brazil.
