For the first time in its 90 years of history, the Regional Livestock Union of Sonora (UGRS) begins a comprehensive modernization, the largest since its foundation, which is materialized thanks to the efforts of Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño and his commitment to the improvement of the livestock sector, in strategic alliance with the government of Mexico and the government of Sonora.
This historic process is materialized with a tripartite investment of 470 million pesos destined for the creation of the Industrial Livestock Park (PGI), an ambitious economic reconversion project located on the land of Terrasol, 10 kilometers from Hermosillo, which arises in response to the closure of the border with the United States due to the screwworm outbreak.
With this infrastructure, the livestock sector will no longer depend exclusively on the export of live cattle to become an industry capable of processing meat with high added value, integrating feedlots, auction services, machinery, transportation and a centralized operation that will reduce costs, especially for the benefit of small producers.
Among the strategic works is the modernization of the PEGSON Farm to increase the slaughter capacity, as well as the relocation of the food plant that had operated since 1975 and that had operational problems, which will be solved with modern facilities.
At the same time, 35 million pesos will be allocated for the acquisition of a thousand registered stallions that will strengthen the genetic improvement of the livestock herd, and the capacity of the Agua Prieta quarantine station will be doubled, going from 1,500 to 3,000 animals checked daily, in coordination with Sader, Senasica and USDA authorities, with the aim of expediting export once the border reopens.
