The president of ColombiaIván Duque, announced this Friday the capture of “all those allegedly involved” in the death of Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci, murdered last May during a trip to Colombia.
“In a shared operation of the Colombian National Police, the Colombian Attorney General’s Office, and with the collaboration of the Paraguayan authorities, we have captured all those allegedly involved, including the perpetrator of the murder of prosecutor Marcelo Pecci,” he reported. the president from Washington.
Duque, who is on tour in the United States, said that the suspects were arrested thanks to an “intelligence operation” and “meticulous work,” and anticipated that they will be brought before a guarantee control judge.
Duque did not reveal more details about the number and identity of the detainees, but promised that all the data “will be released to public opinion” once they have been reviewed by the judge.
The president affirmed that the authorities have “important and robust evidence” to accuse them, and asserted that all those who participated in this “horrendous crime” will get “what they deserve.”
In addition, he expressed his “solidarity” with Pecci’s family and with the Paraguayan people.
Duque made this announcement from Andrews Air Force Base, on the outskirts of Washington, from where he planned to fly today to the city of Reno (Nevada) to participate in a conference of US mayors.
Pecci, a renowned Paraguayan anti-mafia prosecutor, was shot dead by unknown assailants on May 10 on a beach in Barú, near Cartagena de Indias, where he traveled for his honeymoon with his wife, the Paraguayan journalist Claudia Aguilera.
