The controller of the National Electricity Regulation Entity (ENRE), Walter Martello, reported that, due to the repeated power cuts in recent days, the Government is analyzing the expiration of the concession of EDESUR.
This, given that, during the weekend, more than 200,000 users were left without electricity supply, most of them related to the company EDESURso the Government could take away the concession to the company.
“Given the serious situation and as indicated by the Ministry of Energy and the technical examination that we will formulate we will act accordingly due to the possible expiration of the concession of the electrical distribution service in charge of the company EDESUR”, reported Martello through his social networks.
For her part, the Secretary of Energy, Flavia Royón stated: “We have reports that hundreds of families have been without electricity for days. They have one thing in common, they are all clients of EDESUR. Our pulse will not tremble if that implies having to terminate the concession contract for the electrical distribution service in charge of the company”.
And he added: “The ENRE will immediately instruct to reinforce the crews to restore the service and will begin the audit of compliance with the summer plan presented.”
The biggest power outages occurred over the weekend, even since Friday, and despite the fact that the service has already been restored in some homes, this Monday 40,000 users are still without supply.
While the company justified that the cuts were due to a request from SACME, which it manages through Cammesa (Wholesale Electricity Market Administration Company) due to “electricity generation deficit”, the ENRE maintained that “the lack of investment is the true cause, it was known with anticipation possible peak demand”.
