the lack of a psychiatrist to carry out an evaluation of the woman accused of stealing a newborn from the Hospital San Lorenzo de los Minascaused the coercive measure hearing against the accused to be postponed.
As explained by Pamela Rosario Suárez’s lawyers, since the Public Ministry said that it does not have this type of specialist, the test was not carried out and now a psychological evaluation will be carried out, which in their opinion is detrimental to the rights of the defendant
In order for the psychological test to be carried out, Judge Karen Casado Minyety of the Permanent Attention Office of Santo Domingo, postponed the coercive measure hearing for Wednesday morning.
“They are going to submit her to a psychological test where it is not possible to know if she has dementia, if she had temporary dementia at the time of committing the punishable crime or what happened,” said lawyer Reinaldo Rosario Sánchez when questioning the change of test.
This is the third time that the coercion hearing of the defendant, against whom the Public Ministry requested the imposition of one year in preventive detention, has been postponed.

Regarding the case, the prosecuting body has said that it has sufficient testimonial, documentary, audiovisual, expert and material evidence, to achieve the transfer of the accused to prison.
The coercion request establishes that Rosario Suárez entered the San Lorenzo de Los Minas Maternal and Child Hospital wearing a nursing uniform and moved around the health center for several hours.
It specifies that at approximately 01:00 in the morning he entered a room in the postpartum area, where a young mother was, together with her two-day-old baby, and to whom Pamela Rosario Suárez appeared in the false quality of area nurse.
After placing a thermometer on the baby and assuring the mother that she had a fever and that it was necessary to admit her to the perinatal area to normalize her temperature, the woman left the room with the baby in her arms.
The defendant, says the Public Ministry, then hid the girl among her belongings to avoid being noticed by the service personnel and the security cameras, taking a taxi outside the hospital, which was in charge of transferring her to a house for a friend located on the old road of Sábana Perdida, Santo Domingo Norte.
The woman left the house early in the morning of the following day, Saturday, January 21, bound for the community of Villa Rivas.
Her sentimental partner was waiting for her at the house, to whom she had told that she was carrying an advanced pregnancy and that she had a cesarean section on January 20 of this year at a medical center in the capital.
The defendant was arrested at the scene on January 24 by members of the National Police.
