The Union of Police Officials of Maldonado (SIPOLMA) called this Monday for a political trial against the Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, due to his “terrible management”, not only in relation to the case of the Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastian Marset -to whom the government gave him a passport, even though he was in a Dubai prison- but also because of the mega-scandal of the former custodian of Luis Lacalle Pou, Alexander Astesianwho is accused of being the head of a network for the sale of false passports that operated from the Executive Tower.
He stressed that since the Secretary of State took over the Ministry, “several of the police chiefs were fired or resigned for being involved in investigations associated with irregularities, crimes and corruption.”
They also recalled that police officers have been forced to use “expired bulletproof vests” that puts “at risk the most precious asset, which is life, finding ongoing criminal complaints made by our association.”
“Given the enormous number of facts, we understand that the Minister of the Interior, by action or omission, is responsible and article 93 of the Constitution of the Republic must be applied to him,” concluded the union’s statement in which they request the political trial against Heber.
