The Duartian Institute will take the Patriotic March to other parts of the country, after having carried it out in the capital and Cibao, demanding the assistance of the international community to Haiti in its process of rescue and integral reconstruction.
The announcement was made by Wilson Gómez and General José Miguel Soto Jiménez, president of the entity and coordinator of the march, respectively, during the participation of both in the Reseñas program, which is hosted by journalists Rafael Núñez and Adelaida Martínez R. for Entelevisión. on Saturdays at 9:00 at night.
“We are going to continue marching, we are going now to the south of the Republic… we are going to Azua and the country is going to express itself”, the president of the Duartian Institute advanced without giving a specific date for the moment, who took the opportunity to announce that they also have the purpose of taking these marches to the international level where they will deliver a document.
Manifesto was delivered to local organizations and authorities
The president of the Duartian Institute said that with the march on August 6, the manifesto was raised, which is the essential basis and the justification for why, and that it was delivered to the representatives of the UN and the OAS in the country; the presidents of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies; to the Ministers of the Interior and Police and of the Armed Forces. AA.; and to the Conference of the Episcopate.
He pointed out that this document will also be delivered to the President of the Republic in a formal way, since the idea is to put in the hands of the highest authorities of the nation the content of why they are in these processes of marches and very concrete actions.
Gómez explained that these movements have tried to draw the attention of the international community and also of the national authorities so that they also make the contribution that they have to make in order to preserve Dominican identity and sovereignty.
The raison d’être of the Patriotic March
The president of the Duartian Institute explained that the manifesto demands that the international community accompany Haiti in the process that it is experiencing as a collapsed state; to the national authorities that enforce the immigration law and the Labor Code; and do work on the border that implies a material infrastructure that allows the soldiers who have to defend the homeland to be in conditions of dignity.
Also, that the Dominican State facilitates that the brigades are closer to protecting the border and that there be a considerable boost to the wall that will contribute to controlling the border situation.
Another of the requests is that of a clear policy regarding women in labor, strict control of the State’s social programs that are encouraging the Haitian presence, as well as complying with the titling of the land in the border area as established by the Constitution.
He complained that to date the Ministry of Education has ignored the Duartian Institute’s claim to reincorporate the subject of morals and civics in schools, stressing that it helps to have responsible citizens.
“These calls are born from this joint effort of patriotic groups, civil society entities, party systems and of course, of course, that it is a sincerely patriotic effort that we appeal to as a distinctive element of these marches that unites us. ”, stated the president of the Duartiano Institute.
He stressed that this derives from the situation that has been prevailing in the neighboring nation of Haiti and the concern about the indifference of the UN, the OAS, the United States, Canada and France that have been looking the other way, when the nature of these organizations is to go and accompany to help a state, nation or people that has collapsed.
He pointed out that this is happening in Haiti in the midst of extreme precariousness, institutional disorder, the absence of an authority, the predominance of armed groups, of unscrupulous civilians who are bordering on terrorism “and we had to react to that And we have to keep reacting.”
The role of the Duartiano Institute has been fundamental
While General José Miguel Soto Jiménez, who is one of the coordinators of the patriotic march, stressed that the role of the Duartiano Institute with Gómez at the head, has been fundamental in these marches, and called to take it in its fair dimension.
“That just dimension is not circumstantial, it is the thought of Juan Pablo Duarte,” he said, emphasizing that the Duartian Institute has gone from being passive to being active, taking on a living body at the right moment and playing the role of promoting thought of Duarte.
He pointed out that although some sectors wanted to minimize the calls and reduce interest, both in the capital and in Santiago, they were massive and the nationalist spirit trembled.
“I was there carrying the national flag,” said Soto Jiménez, who pointed out that it is necessary to highlight the diversity and citizen quality of those who were present in that march, covering all sectors, marching shoulder to shoulder.
He stated that the most exciting moment was when they arrived at the statue of Duarte and hearing slogans like “Duarte is the way”, a slogan that came naturally.
Regarding the expressions that have been made by some sectors that have described these demonstrations as a “letter of hate”, General Soto Jiménez replied that they do not hate or fear anyone, quite the contrary, since the movement seeks to provoke a reaction from international organizations. to create conditions and solutions in the neighboring country.
“We have empowered ourselves with the thought of Juan Pablo Duarte, with the most illustrious mind… Instead of a hate letter, what is taking place is an act of humanistic solidarity to improve the situation in Haiti. Now, that cannot be at the expense of the security and well-being of the Dominican Republic,” said Soto Jiménez.
Like Gómez, he advocated that the laws regarding migration be complied with, but above all that the Constitution be complied with, pointing out that the main problem they see in the country is that of the illegal migration issue, which he assured that it is evaded.
“We are at a time when that illegal presence is swallowing the fruits of Dominican democracy that has cost Dominicans so much,” he warned.
He said that every president he has interacted with has had the same speech crying out for help for Haiti.
The assassination of General Soto Jiménez’s uncle
Regarding the murder of three people on a farm in Puerto Plata, among the victims an uncle of General Soto Jiménez, the former secretary of the Armed Forces said that the Police are on the trail and that they have identified the alleged murderer of those three Dominicans.
