Dry law and all the JNE restrictions in the week of the elections of October 2

In the last week of the Regional and Municipal Elections of Peru of 2022which will be held this October 2, the National Elections Jury (JNE) has imposed a series of restrictions, being the Dry Law one of the most unpopular with voters, but what are the other provisions?

Since Monday, September 26, electoral restrictions began to be in force throughout the country in order to ensure the correct development of the electoral day to which a total of 24,759,909 Peruvian voters and 153 foreigners have been summoned to elect the future regional governors and mayors for the next four years.

The electoral body has reported that operations will be carried out in Lima and various regions of the country to enforce all restrictions and thus ensure that the vote on Sunday, October 2, 2022 takes place normally.

WHAT ARE THE RESTRICTIONS IMPOSED BY THE JNE IN THE WEEK OF THE ELECTIONS THIS OCTOBER 2?

Know the restrictions and sanctions in accordance with the Organic Law of Elections:

Unable to post polls

From 00:00 hours on Monday, September 26 The dissemination or publication of voting intention surveys in the media is prohibited, in accordance with article 191 of the Organic Law on Elections (LOE). Failure to comply with this provision will be sanctioned with a fine of between 10 and 100 Tax Units (UIT), that is, between S/46 thousand and S/446.

Prohibit political gatherings and demonstrations

From 00:00 hours on Friday, September 30 Meetings or demonstrations of a political nature will be prohibited. If this is not done, the penalty is a prison sentence of not less than three months nor more than two years.

Ban political propaganda and interviews

All kinds of political propaganda will be suspended from 00:00 hours on Saturday, October 1. Candidates may not participate in the media (interviews, conferences, debates, etc.). Failure to comply will result in a fine of between 30 (S/138,000) and 100 UIT (S/446,000) or a prison sentence of not less than two years.

Dry Law

Drinks cannot be sold alcoholic beverages from 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 1 to 8 a.m. on Monday, October 3. Failure to comply is punishable by imprisonment for no more than six months, a fine of no less than S/2,790, and an accessory penalty of disqualification for the same amount of time as the sentence.

Prohibit meeting of voters

On election day, Sunday, October 2, between 07:00 am and 5:00 pm, Voter gatherings are not allowed within a radius of less than 100 meters from the voting centers.
