Drug trafficker requested for extradition by a US court arrested in Colombia

The Colombian authorities arrested Alfonso Meléndez Ballesteros, alias ‘Poncho’, in Colombia. a drug trafficker requested for extradition by a United States courtThe Police reported this Sunday.

In a joint operation between the Police, the Army and the Prosecutor’s Office, with the support of the US authorities, ‘Poncho’ was arrested in the municipality of Acandí, located in the department of Chocó and on the border with Panama.

The detainee, the Police said in a statement, He is requested by the Eastern District Court of Texas for crimes of drug trafficking and conspiracy.

The man is part of an international drug trafficking organization that sends cocaine in ‘Go fast’ boats from the Colombian municipality of Turbo, in the department of Antioquia, to Central America, from where it is then taken to the United States.

The criminal group of which he is a part is allied with the Clan del Golfo, the main gang in the country, and he is accused by that court, precisely, of sending more than two tons of cocaine to the United States through Central America.

‘Poncho’ was left at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office so that, through its Office of International Affairs, it can process his extradition to the United States.
