Today (4) the federal government pays Extraordinary Aid to approximately 148 thousand fishermen and women in the North Region affected by this year’s historic drought. The benefit, worth R$ 2,824, will be deposited in Caixa Econômica Federal to assist families whose activities were seriously affected by the drought in the states of Acre, Amazonas, Pará and Rondônia
According to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, the single installment will be paid directly into the beneficiary’s Caixa account – or into a digital social savings account automatically opened by the bank. In total, more than R$418 million will be paid.
Fishermen who received unemployment insurance for artisanal fishermen and who live in municipalities in the Northern Region in an emergency situation, recognized by the federal government and registered by the municipality until October 8, are entitled to assistance.
Amazonas is the state with the largest number of beneficiaries, almost 79 thousand people, in 49 municipalities. In Acre and Rondônia, this type of drought insurance will benefit fishermen from 22 municipalities each. In Pará, in addition to the capital Belém and Muaná, on Marajó Island, workers from 19 other cities will be able to withdraw the amount.
The aid was instituted by the federal government through Provisional Measure (MP) 1,263/2024 to assist artisanal fishing families affected by the extreme and prolonged drought that has been affecting the North Region, since it began in June this year. The list of municipalities served and the number of beneficiaries can be accessed at page of the ministry.
