Santo Domingo. – Christmas in the Dominican Republic is distinguished by being a time of reunion between family and friends, who take advantage of the holiday to share quality moments.
In this context, congestion on the country’s main land roads becomes a predominant factor during Christmas Eve.
Since the early hours of this Tuesday afternoon, drivers traveling on the Juan Pablo Duarte highway in the direction of Santo Domingo-Cibao have reported a strong traffic jam starting at kilometer 20, which intensifies from kilometer 25.

Likewise, the transportation route stations located at kilometer 9 of the Duarte highway, which connect with the northern region, and in the area known as Pintura, which heads south, are critical points for the formation of blockages.

In response to this situation, the authorities and relief organizations, such as the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Security (DIGESETT), the Emergency Operations Center (COE), the Civil Defense and the Red Cross, urge citizens to drive carefully to avoid accidents.
However, in the National District, avenues such as 27 de Febrero, Máximo Gómez, John F. Kenndy, Tiradentes and San Martin, traffic begins to look clear as the nights go by.
The driver Rafael Díaz, from the 27 de Febrero route (going down), maintains that the decrease in vehicles in that area is due to the fact that many people moved inland to spend Christmas with their family while others decided to stay at home and They have already started their Christmas preparations.
