The deadline to renew a driver’s license expired has been the subject of recent changes due to the passage of a bill. Given the inconveniences that arose this year to renew the licenses, it was proposed to extend their validity and this initiative was recently approved.
The project establishes a partial extension of the validity of the licenses until the year 2025, adding to the previous extensions granted during 2020, 2021 and 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the high demand for attention to complete the process. Under the new law, the driver’s licenses that were to be renewed in 2023 and 2024 will have a one-year extension. Those that should have been renewed in 2022 will have an extended validity of two years. However, the licenses expired in 2020 and 2021 will not be extended and must be renewed during this year.
Regarding renewal terms, non-professional driver’s licenses will be renewed for a period of six years from the original expiration date, while professional licenses can be renewed renew for four years from the time of processing.
