Aguilera Milanés is a worker at the Las Tunas Provincial Health Directorate and her relatives are kept informed of her situation, according to MINSAP.
According to the statement, the Cuban authorities began negotiations with their Haitian counterparts “immediately and with due discretion, essential in situations of this nature.”
In this way they seek to “attend with the highest priority this unfortunate fact in order to achieve the safe and prompt release of the Cuban collaborator.”
The rest of the members of the Medical Brigade are well, complying as up to now with the security measures established for the performance of their duties and their protection, the notification states.
A year ago a similar incident occurred, when Dr. Daymara Helen Pérez was kidnapped for ten days.
In December 2021, two Cuban engineers were also kidnapped in downtown Port-au-Prince when they were on their way to the Haitian Immigration Department. His release occurred a few weeks later.
The wave of violence has not stopped in Haiti, and it worsened after the assassination in July 2021 of the then President Jovenel Moise.
In 2022, at least 55 agents were killed in the country, in a context marked by the deterioration of the security climate and dominated by armed attacks, the multiplication of kidnappings, robberies and rapes.
