Felipe Drugovich, from Paraná, confirmed that he won the Formula 2 world title this Saturday (10). The stage was the Autodromo de Monza, in Italy. Before the race, the Brazilian from Maringá (PR) had a gap of 69 points in the lead of the leaderboard in relation to rival Theo Pourchaire. Felipe Drugovich started in 12th place and had to abandon the race after a crash in the first moments of the race. The French driver also started in the middle of the pack, in 14th, and needed to reach at least fifth to postpone the title decision. Pourchaire attempted a recovery run, but only finished 17th, without scoring any points. Thus, the green and yellow party was guaranteed with three tests in advance. The sprint race was won by Hitech’s Juri Vips, followed by Pourchaire’s teammate Frederik Vesti at ART, and rounding out the podium was Prema’s Jehan Daruvala.

“It was a strange race. We didn’t have much to do after Turn 4 because I was pushed onto the grass and forced to retire,” Felipe Drugovich told his own press office. “Closing the championship like this is different, but also very good, because we showed that we were strong throughout the year. Now we are going to worry about winning the team championship as well.”

In the season, the Brazilian won the race in Saudi Arabia, the two races in Barcelona, the main race in Monaco and in Zandvoort, in the Netherlands. Of the six Formula 2 champions, four made it to F1: Charles Leclerc (2017), George Russell (2018), Mick Schumacher (2020) and Oscar Piastri (2021).
