Investigative Commission in the Departmental Board to shed light on the issue
The former Director of the Treasury, today a Departmental Councilor of the National Party, explained the reasons that led him to request the formation of a Pre-investigative Commission in the Communal Deliberative Committee.
In that sense, the deadlines are already ticking for an Investigative Commission to be installed.
He said that, among other things, it seeks to shed light on a topic that has been talked about a lot: the purchase of a drilling truck during the previous Departmental Government period.
“I was aware that there was a tender, but I do not have to be aware of or know the content of the tender, who it was purchased from, why it was purchased, how it was purchased, what was ordered and what was delivered” held the Dr. Rafael Rodríguez.
“We come from an electoral process and a very tough political process, where in the middle there was a strong incursion of personal attacks on political actors with a strong campaign of enchastre because that’s how it was, this is an analysis, I am not putting any qualifier, as a result of the intervention of Edil Amaral of the Frente Amplio who has always brought up, he has always made requests for a report, but he never concludes with his requests for a report, that is, it swirls, swirls, but never lands. The political interest is, ultimately, to keep the issue alive and not solve or give any explanation to anyone so that it remains clear that everyone is a bunch of scoundrels, criminals and corrupt people.” he stated. “For me, this has to begin to end and I think the way to do it, as a first step, is to ask for a Pre-Investigative Commission.” he added.
At the time this surprised not only the Departmental Board but also the departmental political environment because Rodríguez was not only Director of the Treasury in the previous Administration, but is now a Councilor elected by List 64 of the National Party, which is asking for an investigation into an event that occurred in the Administration of the National Party. “It doesn’t hurt me, I believe when things have to be made transparent to safeguard the honorability of some people, including mine, even if some people don’t like it, you have to do what you have to do” he emphasized.
“When they have taken me to places to interrogate me, question me and consult me, when I have had to go, and I went, all the times that the Departmental Board called me to give explanations in situations that no one wanted to give explanations and that no one wanted to show their face, I did it” he remembered. “That is why I believe I have the moral authority to demand an Investigative Commission and if they do not form it, they will have to put up with me giving my opinion and doing other things” said.
“We want to know what happened, I want the bidding document, the offers, why the equipment that was purchased was put up for public consideration for an investigation, if there was any recommendation or suggestion about whether the equipment that was purchased and actually delivered is the same or not, and if the technical requirements of the topography of our department, based on what was requested, were what was needed or not” stated Dr. Rafael Rodríguez.
“I am aware that the equipment that was purchased cost USD 105,000, however, Mayor Amaral, who I don’t know where he got the information from, says that it cost USD 205,000” he pointed out. I have information, which I submitted to the consideration of the Pre-Investigative Commission, that the equipment cost USD 105,000 not USD 205,000, what a difference, it is USD 100,000 less.” he insisted.
“I want it to be investigated. Now we must form the Investigative Commission with 4 Councilors from the National Party and 1 from the Broad Front for proportional representation” confirmed. “There will be 2 Councilors from the current that led Yurramendi as a candidate and another 2 Councilors who represent the Morel current, in addition to the Councilor from the opposition” he added.
