The province of Huancayo participated in the Second Multi-Hazard Drill 2024 of magnitude 8.8, focused on improving the response capacity to natural disasters in Peru. Today marks 17 years since the tragic earthquake that shook Pisco, in which 595 people died.

Various social groups participated in the drill, as well as institutions from Civil Defense, Samu, Firefighters, National Police, and Red Cross. In the center of Huancayo, they rescued injured people from the third floor of a shopping center with harnesses and ropes. Mayor Dennys Cuba reported 100 people dead in various sectors and the disposition of various managements.
