Dredging of the river in Vuelta Queso would end in two weeks

Hoy Paraguay

The director of Strategic Projects, Jorge Vergara, informed about from the beginning of the dredging work at the height of Vuelta Queso on the Paraguay River, between the cities of Pilar and Humaitá.

“Probably they will be two weeks and in that time the passage will be released,” Vergara commented in an interview with Universo – Nación Media radio.

The dredging contract was signed for three years, for six million dollars,(two million per company) taking into account that each company must dredge in sections. Financing is solely in charge of the MOPC.

The sections include: the which includes the Paraguay River from the confluence with the Paraná River to km 387, run by the company Ingeniería de Topografía de Caminos SA (T&C SA); Lot 2, which begins at km 387 and goes to km 704, awarded to Terminal Occidental SA (TOSA) and Lot 3, from km 704 to the confluence with the Apa River, which will be handled by Artes y Estructuras SA

Related note: Vessels cannot navigate, dredging should have started in December, they say

Currently the maximum draft allowed is six feet, which is equivalent to 1.80 meters, according to the Pilar Naval Prefecture.

These factors become very detrimental delays for the sector and in turn represent a cost overrun, because despite carrying less cargo, they still have to wait for the river to be in a condition to move forward.
