The rector of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Editrudis Beltrán Crisóstomo, He received the winning students of the “Win the Semester” contest in the Rector’s Office, to whom he offered a welcome message focused on the importance of discipline, perseverance and commitment to knowledge as fundamental pillars for personal improvement and the development of the country.
Beltrán highlighted that students are the reason for being of the state academy and shared a reflection on his own academic career, remembering that he also began his training in that house of higher education.
“This university was the one that opened the doors to me and that has made it possible for me to be speaking to you today as rector, a sign that with opportunity, discipline, perseverance and effort we can go beyond what we envision,” he expressed.
He stressed that the Primacy of America remains an institution with doors open to knowledge, plurality of thought and social mobility, without distinction of origin or economic condition, and highlighted that true value lies in the desire to advance and contribute to collective well-being.
In his speech, the rector also highlighted the main advances achieved during his administration, which is in its final stage, among them the updating of study programs, the streamlining of student services, the strengthening of virtual platforms through the free delivery of electronic tablets and the improvements in internal campus mobility, such as the rail transport system that operates within the university headquarters.
During the activity
During a moment of interaction, Beltrán used the “UASD train” as a metaphor for the training process, pointing out that all students are already part of the “train of learning and opportunities” offered by a public and open university, conceived as a center of intellectual life.
Concluding his message, he urged the students to keep the ability to dream alive and not to allow obstacles to overcome their will. “Dream big, dream big, and don’t let anyone or any setback be stronger than your determination,” he said.
The event was attended by the president of the Student Federation, Pedro Martínez (Fonsy); the general director of Communications, Roberto Tejada Muñoz; and other members of the academic community.
