From early hours, children, youth and adults came to the Amador Causeway to enjoy the famous Dragon Boat Races in its 6th Version, in the collegiate, mixed, female, open, master and breast cancer survivor categories who will run in 200, 500, 1000 and 2000 meters on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 February.
Fermín Tomás Chan, organizer of the event and president of the Panamanian Chinese Cultural Center, said that this activity is part of the “Country Event” as it has been called this year to celebrate the Year of the Water Tiger, and this Saturday the teams ran 500, 1000 and 2000 meters and tomorrow Sunday the 200 meters will be added.
“We invite all families to join us, but all with their complete vaccination schedule, as required by biosecurity measures.”
This Sunday, February 13, the opening ceremony will be held at 9:00 am, with the participation of HE Wei Qiang, ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Panama, the Ministry of Culture, the Tourism Authority and the National Council of the Chinese ethnic group, among other authorities and special guests.
The participating teams are: Pink Warriors, Hydra Warriors, Hydra Serpents, Dragon Den, Sky Dragon Boat Club, Kush, Panadragon, Aprochampions, Indigo Dragons and Dragon Rage.
The occasion is propitious to promote greater intercultural integration, due to the great teamwork, healthy competition, harmony and discipline that characterize this race that resumes this year, after two years of having suspended it due to the effects of Covid 19 in Panama and the world.
For the development of this sport, each team is made up of 12 rowers, of which 10 are rowing (5 on each side), a person in the front playing a rhythmic drum of the race and in the back another person who leads the rudder of the boat.
