The Dominican Republic will host the Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Health of Central America (Comisca), which will be held in Punta Cana.
According to a press release, the activity will take place on December 1 and 2 and will be headed by the Minister of Health, daniel riverapresident pro tempore of the Comisca.
The meeting is the main regional forum for the analysis, deliberation and proposals of the ministers of health.
On this occasion, the country -which holds the pro tempore presidency of the organization- must offer a general report on the results and progress of the priorities established for this period, in accordance with the Plan of Health of Central America and the Dominican Republic (Pscard) 2021-2025.
In the same way, the heads of the regional technical operational instances, with priorities established for the period, will show the advances and achievements in relation to important topics such as: the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Health Promotion Strategy; the Guidelines for Access to Contraceptive Methods for adolescents in Central America and the Dominican Republic and other initiatives in which progress was made during this semester.
The meeting will be held in person with the participation of the authorities of the eight Member States of the Central American Integration System (sica): Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic; that during the meeting formally transfers the pro tempore presidency to Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health and Welfare of Belize.
The regular meeting of the Executive Committee for the Implementation of the Health plan (CEIP), will be held this Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 and will be led by Dr. Alejandra Acunaexecutive secretary of the Comisca and the representation of the Dominican Republic.
According to the press release, the objectives of the meeting include: reviewing the findings of the regional consultation related to the Regional Health Policy, for the identification of axes and lines of action that will be included in the first draft of the Policy Regional Health of SICA (PRSS) 2023-2030.
The Council of Ministers of Health of Central America (Comisca) constitutes the political body of the Central American Integration System (SICA), whose purpose is the identification and prioritization of regional health problems.
In the meeting, in addition to the ministers and the head of the Executive Secretariat of the Comisca, the PAHO/WHO representative in the host country participates as an observer, as well as advisors and specialists who are part of the delegations of the countries, cooperators invited according to the agenda to be developed and SE-Comisca officials.
