Santo Domingo, (EFE).- The directors of migration or their representatives from Central America and the Dominican Republic will meet next Monday and Tuesday in the latter country to discuss this issue, as well as human rights and development.
Delegations from Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Panama and Belize will participate in the assembly of the Central American Commission of Migration Directors, to be held in Punta Cana (east).
The regional meeting, announced this Friday by the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) Dominican Republic, will also deal with cooperation in security, protection, surveillance, prevention and modernization of borders, integrated controls and technological improvements.
Likewise, it is expected to discuss legislation, international agreements and political mechanisms to achieve method stability, regularization of migration programs and strengthen the fight against migrant smuggling.

The DGM assured that during the meeting it will be demonstrated “once again” that the country applies a “correct execution of migration laws and regulations”, which include application of protocols, respect for human rights and humanitarian treatment.
The Dominican Republic is executing a deportation program for citizens with irregular immigration status, most of whom are Haitian nationals.
Dominican President Luis Abinader said this Friday that “the international community has an obligation to come to the aid of Haiti to overcome the suffering that this people endures.”
During the summit of heads of state and government of the Central American Integration System (SICA) held in Santiago (north of the Dominican Republic), Abinader stressed this “obligation” also so that the Government of Haiti “can assume a higher level of responsibility vis-à-vis the countries around them” with regard to migration.

At the end of the summit, the regional entity endorsed the “urgent” appeal that, at the beginning of the conclave, the Dominican Executive made to the international community to address the “serious crisis” that Haiti is going through.
In the final document of the meeting, the States that make up SICA expressed their “concern about the serious situation that affects the Republic of Haiti, in the economic, social, political and humanitarian spheres, which hinders the development of its institutions and citizens ».
