DR seeks to reduce greenhouse gases by 27% by 2030

Santo Domingo.- The Executive Vice President of the National Council for Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism (CNCCMDL), Max Puigsaid this Wednesday that it is expected to reduce the greenhouse gases produced in the country by 27% by the year 2030.

When participating in the Weekly Lunch of the Corripio Communications Group, Puig stressed that in order to achieve this reduction, resources are needed not only from a local contribution, but also from the countries that have generated climate change and have committed to contributing to the aforementioned fight. .

“We have committed to reducing gas emissions by 27% between now and 2030. Now, for that we need resources and that is worth 18 billion dollars”, 9 billion for mitigation actions and the remaining part in adaptation he explained.

In general terms, Puig indicated that only 62% of greenhouse gas emissions in the Dominican Republic correspond to the energy and transportation sector.

When detailing the mechanisms outlined to achieve a 27% reduction in greenhouse gases, Luz Alcántara, in charge of the Mitigation Division, explained that this percentage implies 20% under international cooperation and the remaining 7% is the sole responsibility of the country. where 2% corresponds to the public sector and 5% to the private sector.

Alcántara indicated that for this, many national companies are already betting on a more sustainable performance in the creation and management of their products and services, in defense and protection of the environment, as well as climate change.
