DR promotes energy efficiency in Eco-Industrial Parks

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM) and the Duarte Industrial Park (P.I.D.) organized the “Energy Efficiency Workshop in Eco-Industrial Parks“, with the purpose of promoting practices sustainable in the industry Dominican Republic and advance the transition towards Eco-Industrial Parks.

According to a press release, the initiative, which was sponsored by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (ONUDI), within the framework of the SDG 9 Accelerator Mechanism for Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, is part of the collaboration agreement signed between MICMhe P.I.D. and the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (Intec).

The workshop was held at the Metaldom Training Center, within the P.I.D.and was taught by Edgar Botero, Onudi expert and director of MGM Innova Energy, development of projects efficiency energy and renewable energies in the sectors industrial and commercial.

The workshop is part of UNIDO’s global effort to promote practices sustainable in countries in development and responds to the country’s commitment to move towards a industry more resilient and green.

“We are committed to transforming the Duarte Industrial Park into a model of Eco-Industrial Park. The efficiency energy is key to achieving industry competitive and respectful of the environment. This workshop is just the beginning of the next actions that will boost our parks industrial towards that objective,” said the Vice Minister of Industrial Development, Fantino Polanco.

While Rosario Aróstegui, vice-rector for Research and Linkage of Intechighlighted: “As an educational institution, our commitment is to support initiatives that allow the sector industrial optimize the use of resources and adopt production models sustainable. “This workshop represents significant progress in that direction.”

The event brought together experts industrialrepresentatives of the sector and local authorities committed to creating a more efficient and sustainable economy. Participants explored strategies to reduce energy consumption and costs, synergies between industries, self-generation, and waste utilization. industrial as energy.
