The diplomatic efforts and technicians of the Dominican Republic to strengthen its leadership in the tourism international community continue to advance with multilateral support.
In that sense, within the framework of the UN Tourism General Assembly number 26, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabiathe Dominican proposal to institutionalize the Africa-Americas Tourism Summit (CAF-CAM) and creating a South-South cooperation mechanism garnered broad support among Member States in both regions.
The initiative was addressed in a plenary session back of the organization, chaired by the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality of Zimbabwe, Barbara Rwodzi, following her country’s election as one of the vice presidents of the Assembly.
A statement details that during the meeting, the Dominican Republic reaffirmed its commitment to the project, conceived as a permanent platform of political dialogue high-level, technical cooperation and systematic monitoring of intercontinental tourism commitments.
Link Africa and the Americas
Once institutionalized, the CAF-CAMdevised by Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) is called to become a strategic axis to strengthen ties between Africa and the Americas in matters of sustainable tourism developmentexchange of good practices and institutional strengthening.
- It will consolidate the role of Dominican Republic as an articulating actor in the global agenda of tourism.
