DR presents offer to attract international private aviation tourism

LAKELAND.- The Dominican Republic presented at the 2022 edition of the “Sun and Fun” fair the new protocol to attract private aviation tourism from the United States and Canada, which will place the country with better growth prospects in the region.

The event held in Lakeland, Florida, United States, was approved by President Luis Abinader.

The proposal was presented by the interim general director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), Héctor Porcella, during the 2022 edition of the Sun and Fun fair, the second most important aviation fair in the United States, held in the state of Florida.

Porcella, who was accompanied by the director of the Airport Department, Víctor Pichardo, and other authorities in the sector, highlighted that the Dominican Republic has eight international airports and 23 domestic ones, and the best catalog of tourist attractions in the entire region.

At the event, the Dominican representation exhibited an attractive pavilion with the various strengths and facilities that the country offers for international private aviation.

The Dominican pavilion was sponsored by the Ministry of Tourismthe Airport Department and the IDAC, as part of a State strategy to position the country as one of the main aviation tourism destinations on the continent.

Porcella, Pichardo and the other members of the Dominican delegation participated in a seminar offered by Mr. Jim Parker, promoter of North American private aviation, with the presence of a group of 50 pilots interested in flying to the Caribbean and the Dominican Republic.

The tourism aircraft market of the United States and Canada represents more than 20,000 private aircraft to the Caribbean, at a time when the Dominican Government is focused on creating the conditions to attract this important segment of international tourism, explained Héctor Porcella.

He recalled that the Dominican Republic has excellent hotel facilities and a natural environment with mountains of up to 10,000 feet and several of the best beaches in the Caribbean, as well as modern communications systems and air traffic to 27 destinations in the United States, operated by a efficient aeronautical and airport service.
