Saint Kitts and Nevis.- Dominican Republic, stood out at the 13th Conference of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), where the president of the National Emergency Commission and Executive Director of the Civil Defense, Juan Salas, led a delegation that represented the country before more than 50 nations and 250 participants.
This international event focused on innovation and the use of technology in disaster risk management, with Dominican participation standing out for its progressive and effective approach.
During the panel, Salas presented the achievements of the Dominican Republic, highlighting the alertDO application, QR codes to locate shelters, the National Integrated Information System (SINI) and a disaster risk management simulator that is in its phase of design, which is why it was classified as a leading authority in the implementation of technological solutions that address the common challenges of the region. In his speech, he highlighted the successful strategies that have been implemented in the country, as well as opening the doors to new collaborations with European financiers and companies that are interested in strengthening disaster prevention and response operations.
The Dominican delegation received numerous congratulations for its outstanding participation and for the exchange of ideas with counterpart institutions in the region. The host Elizabeth Riley, executive director of CDEMA and attending regional authorities such as the minister of security, the minister of the environment and the ambassador of the European Union for the Caribbean praised the commitment of the Dominican Republic to innovation and international cooperation, key elements to face the challenges presented by disasters due to the effects of climate change.
Juan Salas was interviewed by the local press and expressed his satisfaction with the results obtained at the conference and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to continue advancing in risk management, ensuring that “Collaboration and knowledge sharing are essential to building a safer future for the more than 40 million citizens of the region.”

The president of the CNE Salas was invited by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction to an official guided visit to the island of Nevis, where he shared with young people and national authorities who showed work carried out on disaster management issues. disaster risks, as well as participated in bilateral meetings with other delegations such as Cuba, Italy, Barbados and ST. Kitts with the objective of achieving joint work in the region and discussing the implementation of current multi-country projects and replicating these actions in these Caribbean countries.
