He Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex) reported on Wednesday that it had preliminarily notified Senegalese authorities about the discovery of some bones in a boat in the waters of Río San Juan, in the province of María Trinidad Sánchez, where there were also identity documents from that African country.
In this regard, the Mirex pointed out that it is waiting for the official report from the Attorney General’s Office on this case to forward it to the authorities of that nation.
Meanwhile, the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) told the newspaper Hoy that the 12 packages of a substance presumed to be drugs are being analyzed by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) in Santiago.
Dominican authorities also indicated that they are trying to determine whether the people on the boat had any ties to the justice system in that African nation.
Although it is known that 14 skeletons were found so far, five documents were recovered among the dozens of objects that were on the boat, which also included cell phones, purses, and other belongings.
It is recalled that the discovery was made by a local fisherman. The fact has given rise to several hypotheses about the history of these sailors.
