RD tiene un vehículo por cada 6 habitantes

In 2021, 100,243 were imported into the country cars with a commercial vocation, of which 82,213 correspond to used units, which represent 80%. While 18,030 were new for 20%, according to the National Association of Vehicle Distributing Agencies (Anadive).

The business entity expressed in a statement that, although the perception is that many cars circulate in the country, the vehicle fleet data reflects that in 2021 it only amounted to 4,842,000 units, of which 53.7% are motorcyclists, with a total of 2,600,154.

Followed by 20.5% that are automobiles, totaling 992,610; of loads that present 9.5%, with 459,990 units; and another 3.7% that are buses, dump trucks, and heavy machinery, totaling 179,154.

The union maintained that there are 2,062,292 utility vehicles for transportation, which means that there is one car for every 6 inhabitants in Dominican Republic, and that other societies such as Puerto Rico own a car for every 3 individuals.

He stated that these data reliably express that in the Dominican Republic there is an unsatisfied demand for means of transportation at the service of the population.

The information was offered today at the inauguration of the Autoferia Anadive 2022, which will take effect until this Sunday, at the Sans Soucí Santo Domingo port terminal, and was headed by Manuel Jiménez, mayor of the municipality of Santo Domingo Este; the blessing by Deacon Julio Reyes and the central speech by Luis Taveras, first vice president of the association and general coordinator of the organizing committee of the fair.

In addition, it was attended by the main executives of Anadive, executives of the Sansouci Port, the banking entities and the participating insurance company.

De los Santos pointed out that due to the increase in the importation and commercialization of medium-use vehicles, commercial banks opened their financing portfolio to used units.

He said that the pandemic produced a worldwide decrease in cars due to the reduction in the capacity of production plants and the lack of key materials such as microchips, semiconductors and aluminum alloys, which caused a lack of new units in the market. .

Thus generating a price increase due to the accentuation of the demandwith a considerable increase in prices in international markets and the main auctions, which makes it more expensive to replace inventories.

He added that to this was added the disproportionate increase in the cost of maritime freight, so that the situation will not be recoverable in the short term and the forecasts are that the situation of scarcity and high prices will continue for the rest of 2022, until the industry stabilizes.

“Anadive and its affiliated companies will make their best efforts to seek promotion and marketing plans, such as the current Auto Fair, accompanied by the best financing plans in the market in alliance with commercial banks, and we hope by the end of the year to carry out a great National fair and present the best offers and provide customers with the possibility of changing their vehicles or acquiring new units”, he pointed out.

suggested to government continue to apply the import incentives agreement and increase tax collections that allow a fair customs valuation through the application of the depreciation table for used vehicles, based on the depreciation of new units of the same model and year.

Finally, he added that the used vehicle sector requires the application of a special simplified tax regime to pay taxes in the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII) of cars imported directly by dealers and that this institution recognizes as part of the tax administration the customs facility granted in a transparent manner through the agreement with the DGA.
