DR expresses condolences to Turkey, US offers help

Santo Domingo.- The Government of the Dominican Republic conveyed its condolences and solidarity to Turkey on Monday, after the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that so far has caused more than 2,000 deaths in that country.

In a message posted on his Twitter profile, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Roberto Alvarezexpressed on behalf of the Executive the “deep condolences to the people and Government of Turkey for the human and material losses caused by the earthquake in the province of Hatay and the south of the country.”

“Our solidarity with the brother Turkish people,” wrote the Dominican foreign minister. To the 1,121 dead and more than 5,300 injured in Turkey, there are another 820 fatalities and more than 2,300 injured on Syrian territory.

This tragedy is generating countless messages of support and solidarity, and the sending of urgent aid, medical and rescue personnel from different countries.

Biden laments earthquake in Turkey and Syria

The American President, Joe Bidenlamented this Monday the earthquake that occurred in Turkey, which has also affected Syria and has left thousands of deaths, and offered all the necessary help to these countries.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of life and the devastation caused by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. I have ordered my team to continue to closely monitor the situation in coordination with Turkey and provide all necessary assistance,” the president said in a message on social media.

A strong 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey and Syria early Monday, followed by another 7.5 magnitude, leaving at least 1,600 dead and thousands injured and missing in both countries.

In a statement, Secretary of State Antony Blinken noted that the initial assistance response to Turkey “is already underway” and that US-backed humanitarian organizations in Syria “are responding to the effects of earthquakes around the world.” country”. “We are determined to do everything we can to help those affected by these earthquakes in the days, weeks and months ahead,” he said.
