The Dominican Republic continues to strengthen its position as one of the main destinations of cruises of the Caribbean, with the arrival of more than 120 international vessels only in January 2026, according to the official calendar of cruises of the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom).
By then, the Star Seeker cruisefrom the shipping line Windstar Cruises –specialized in luxury tourism– will make its first visit to the country.
The boat – which will touch the sea for the first time Taíno Bay portin Puerto Platathe next January 18from 8:00 in the morning to 6:00 in the afternoon – “marks a significant event for the country’s maritime tourism,” the institution highlighted in a press release.
He executive director of Apordom, Jean Luis Rodríguezhighlighted the importance for the sector that 120 cruises have chosen the Dominican Republic as one of their main destinations in the heist schedule.
“This calendar reflects the confidence of the world’s main shipping companies in the Dominican Republic and the result of the work we have been doing to strengthen our port infrastructure and consolidate the country as a regional reference in the industry cruises“, he expressed.
Expected shipping companies
The calendar includes the visit of ships from recognized lines such as Royal Caribbean, Carnival CruisesNorwegian Cruise Line, MSCCelebrity Cruises, Costa Cruises, Princess Cruises, Virgin Voyages and AIDA Cruises, reaffirming the industry’s confidence in Dominican ports.
During the month, the ports of Taino Bay, Amber CovePuerto Santo Domingo and La Romana will receive multiple stops, which will directly impact the local economy, commerce, tourist excursions and job creation.
January is part of the peak season of cruises in the region, which extends from the months of November to April, a period in which the main shipping companies increase their operations in the Caribbean, favored by the weather conditions and the high tourist demand.
Figures for 2025
The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, said yesterday that 2025 closed with 2,399,830 cruise passengers, which he considered “a record year.”
