DR condemns attacks by Iran and asks to stop escalation in the Middle East

Santo Domingo.- The Government of Dominican Republic This Friday he expressed his deep concern about the growing tension in Middle East and urged the parties involved to avoid actions that intensify the currentmilitary escalation in the region.

Through an official statement, the Dominican authorities They wished for the prompt return of peace and stabilityreiterating that the dialogue frank and the use of diplomatic mechanisms available constitute the surest way to reach a lasting solution to the conflict.

In that context, the country “strongly” repudiated the unjustified and unprovoked attacks attributed to Iran against Gulf States, and expressed solidarity with nations affected by violence, especially with United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Jordan, the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Kuwait.

Likewise, he urged all actors involved to respect international humanitarian law and to privilege diplomatic channels over any military action.

The statement also warns that the current situation once again highlights the risks that nuclear proliferation represents for global security.

In this sense, the Dominican Republic renewed its commitment to multilateral effortss aimed at preventing the development of nuclear programs for non-peaceful purposes, while calling on the international community to redouble its determination in this matter.

As a preventive measure, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that it has instructed Dominican diplomatic missions accredited in the region to adopt the necessary provisions to safeguard their personnel and strengthen communication channels with Dominican citizens residing in the affected areas, in order to provide them with timely consular assistance.

The authorities shared the contacts of their diplomatic representations in Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, and urged nationals in those jurisdictions to remain in communication with the consular headquarters in the event of any eventuality.
