The Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, participated in the Forum of Candidates for the position of director of the Pan American Health Organization, during the 170 Session of the PAHO Executive Committee, where Panama has proposed Dr. Camilo Alleyne as a candidate. .
The six candidates nominated to lead this instance of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) participated in the forum, addressing the Member States in a closed-door forum, after holding a meeting of the organization’s Executive Committee.
The countries nominated by their respective countries are: Panama, Brazil, Haiti, Mexico, Colombia and Uruguay, which by prior drawing the order of their presentations was chosen, where each one had 30 minutes to present verbally and then one hour to respond. questions from Member States, participating States and associate members.
For his part, Minister Sucre said “that Panama nominated Dr. Camilo Alleyne, because he has the necessary qualities for the position and we know that if he is elected he will do an extraordinary job.”
During his presentation, Dr. Alleyne explained his vision and the priorities that he proposes for the organization, emphasizing that actions must be oriented towards human beings, who he stressed deserve quality and immediate attention, regardless of social position, race or ideology.
He also mentioned that if elected, his management will be characterized by ethics and transparency through a portal where member countries can enter and check progress in the execution of the organization’s work and budget program.
Strategy that consists of making known in depth the strength and needs of the countries of the organization to promote international cooperation among the peoples of the Americas, said Alleyne, who was the last candidate to present closing the session.
The election of the new director will take place by secret ballot during the 30th Pan American Sanitary Conference, which will be held from September 26 to 30.
