Santo Domingo.- The dominican authorities keep open “a wide investigation” on a shipment of 9.8 tons of cocaine seized on December 5 in a container that arrived at the Multimodal Port Caucedothis one from Santo Domingo, but that both Guatemala as Honduras They have denied that it has touched any maritime terminal or soil in those countries.
The investigation has been able to determine “the traceability of the shipment of 9,889 kilos of cocaine seized thanks to the efforts of local authorities and international cooperation,” the Public Ministrywhich carries out the investigations together with the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD).
The actions of the authorities included the December 5 a temporary stoppage, for reasons of securityof commercial operations in the port, where the main elite units of the anti-drug agency “covered a wide security perimeter, to prevent attempts to put the lives of the investigators and the custody of the corpus delicti resulting from the seizure at risk,” added the information.
This is “a complex investigation because the authorities face a criminal organization transnational with strong ramifications in several countries of Central America, South America, the Caribbean and Europe”he added.
Local authorities remain in permanent contact with several countries that have shared research data and have requested information, within the framework of international legal cooperation and the bilateral agreements that the Dominican Republic maintains to contribute to an effective fight against organized crime, the information continued.
Likewise, the Public Ministry He considered the availability of the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and “the entire international community to collaborate in the fight against drug trafficking.”
At the same time, he pointed out that “as he has done in the 26 operations against organized crime that he has carried out in recent years, he reserves details that would put the investigation at risk.”

After carrying out the corresponding tests at the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif), the authorities proceeded to stash incineration“keeping the required sample in custody in a vault and in compliance with the legal, procedural and regulatory provisions in force,” the note concluded.
The president of Guatemala, Bernardo Arévalo de León, reiterated on Thursday the disengagement of the Central American country cwith the shipment, whose value the Dominican authorities estimated at 250 million dollars and is the largest seizure in the history of the Dominican Republic and also in part of the Caribbean region.
Already on December 9, the Guatemalan Ministry of the Interior (Interior) indicated in a statement that the container was reviewed “through scanner technology” in Guatemala, so “it did not present illegal acts” and, therefore, it was classified as “ unsuspicious”.
According to the same source, the vessel with the container in question departed from Veracruz, Mexico, and later arrived in Puerto Barrios, on the Guatemalan coast of the Atlantic Ocean, where the ship “incorporated local cargo.”
Afterwards, the boat headed to Puerto Cortés in Honduras and Puerto Caucedo in the Dominican Republic, where authorities seized the drug shipment.
